Through the Garden Gate Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition in Deqiu, Shanghai, is co-curated by Professor Norman Cherry and Professor Kezhen Wang. This is one more amazing project between Chinese jewellery artists and European jewelry artists after ‘The Other Mountain’ Chinese Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition in the UK ,2016.
The concept of the public garden is an established part of the cultural history of China and many countries in the West. Historically such gardens have been places of rest and recuperation, places for leisure and exercise, and also of learning about flora and fauna. For this exhibition at Shanghai Deqiu Professors Norman Cherry (UK) and Wang Kezhen (China) have invited a total of thirty-eight contemporary jewellery artists from China, the UK and Europe to reflect on the subject of ‘The Garden’ and create new works which demonstrate their thoughts on the importance and value of these spaces. Each has taken a very personal approach, exploring their innermost feelings and observations to create exciting and vibrant works of wearable art.
Norman, Kezhen and the rest of the curatorial team hope that, as you “walk through the garden gate” into this alternative garden paradise, you will enjoy this wonderful, stimulating, and exciting new jewellery.
